KULANJAN
Taj Mahal & Toumani Diabaté

When West Africans were taken to the Americas, they left behind the Kora—a 21-string harp-lute whose intricate playing had shaped centuries of West African music. The musical imagination that had lived in the kora had to find a new home: the guitar.

On Kulanjan, Taj Mahal and Toumani Diabaté bring the journey full circle, reuniting the guitar with the kora.

Named Album of the Year by Folk Roots magazine.

Personally recommended by President Barack Obama in a Borders survey.

Celebrated for tracing the roots of American blues back to West Africa, a theme Taj Mahal has long championed.
